Legacy presents grant to Elizabeth Hospice

FALLBROOK – Legacy Endowment recently presented a grant award in the amount of $13,187 to Elizabeth Hospice.

Elizabeth Hospice provides many programs and services including a family support program that provides family-centered care, helping families deal with issues such as: letter writing, creating ethical wills, food preparation, practical household tasks, phone calls, grocery shopping, light housekeeping, reading, breaks for caregivers, companionship, physician communications, referrals to support resources, and counseling for children and teens. It also offers a portable classroom to bring information about Hospice to businesses and community organizations; educational presentations for professionals; support groups for all of those with losses – such as children who have a parent go away on deployment and parents whose children have been lost to substance abuse; a speaker’s bureau; and a discussion series around North County San Diego.

Elizabeth Hospice has opened new neighborhood “Centers for Compassionate Care” in Poway and Oceanside with more neighborhoods on the way and has introduced the popular new ‘Care Bear’ program that involves using personal clothing items that belonged to a loved one who is gone and sewing them into beautiful, huggable teddy bears.

Legacy’s grant award research process entails a visit to the grant applicant to experience the work of the applicant’s organization. Upon returning from their visit, committee members said they had been “inspired and deeply moved.” Each used almost the identical words to describe their experience… “I had no idea”.
