Fallbrook CROP walk for hunger is this Sunday

FALLBROOK – The 20th annual community wide 5K CROP Hunger Walk fundraiser will be held on Sunday, March 21. Registration begins at 1 p.m. with the walk commencing at 1:30 p.m. Walkers meet at the Fallbrook Food Pantry located at 1042 S. Mission Road.

CROP stands for Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty, and of the funds raised, 75 percent will benefit hunger/disaster relief worldwide, while 25 percent will be donated to the Fallbrook Food Pantry.

The first CROP Hunger Walk was held in 1969 in North Dakota, with some 1,000 walkers raising $25,000, according to Church World Service. Since then, more than 5 million people have participated in more than 36,000 CROP hunger walks. Money provides seeds and tools, training in clean water technology and information on farming development in countries around the world.
