Wilson wins girls long jump at Bronco Invite

Fallbrook High School sophomore Hannah Wilson won the girls open division long jump event at track and field’s Bronco Invitational March 13 at Rancho Bernardo High School.

Wilson jumped 16 feet 0 1/2 inches to win first place in the open division. Patrick Henry junior Farrah Shokoor placed second in the open division with a distance of 15 feet 7-3/4 inches. Wilson’s distance also bettered eight of the 15 entrants in the invitational division.

Wilson augmented her gold medal with a fifth-place distance of 31 feet 6 1/2 inches in the open triple jump.

The girls invitational 800-meter run saw Fallbrook junior Amanda Mulkey take third place with a time of 2:22.84.

The 4x100 relay teams were divided by heats, and Fallbrook’s boys placed third in their heat behind Mira Mesa and Steele Canyon with a time of 44.08 seconds. Granite Hills placed fourth.

Fallbrook’s runners in the boys 4x100 were junior Victor Lopez, junior Justin Jones, sophomore Chris Bernal, and senior Caleb Sumpter. “I was very impressed with that group,” said Fallbrook head coach Troy Hamlin. “They’re a team that could medal at CIF.”

The boys distance medley team took fifth place with a time of 11:07.58. Junior Ramon Villagomez began the race with a 3:27.8 performance in the 1200-meter segment, Lopez ran the 400-meter portion in 55.9 seconds, sophomore Enrique Rivera took 2:06.3 to run 800 meters, and junior Michael Froboese anchored the race by running 1,600 meters in 4:38.2.

Jones also competed in the boys invitational 800-meter race and finished tenth with a time of 2:03.51.

Fallbrook senior Anthony Pando cleared 13’1” to take fourth place in the boys’ invitational pole vault. Senior Kyle Little was seventh in the girls’ invitational pole vault with a distance of 8’7”. Sophomore Joe Curran’s distance of 11’7” placed him seventh in the boys open pole vault while senior Tuongvi Cao was eighth in the girls open pole vault at 7’7.”

Senior Deanna Doss was third in the girls open shot put with a throw of 30 feet 9 1/4 inches and seventh in the girls invitational discus throw with a toss of 103 feet 10 inches.

Two Fallbrook High jumpers placed sixth in their events. Senior Lee Masten cleared 5’6” in the boys open event while sophomore Holly Contreras cleared 4’6” in the girls open competition.

“Bronco’s a good early-season meet because you get a very good wakeup call,” Hamlin said.
