How to stop kitchen fires

SAN DIEGO COUNTY – CAL FIRE offers these tips on kitchen fire safety. If a pot or pan catches fire, cover it with a lid, and turn off the burner. In case of an oven fire, close the oven door and turn off the heat. For a microwave oven fire, keep the door closed and push the stop button.

A fire extinguisher should be kept in or near the kitchen. Choose a class “ABC” extinguisher that’s labeled by a testing laboratory. Be fire safe, not sorry!
