Two Wildomar men free on bail after allegedly stealing 200 pounds of avocados in De Luz

TEMECULA - Two men who allegedly went to a farm near Temecula and stole around 200 pounds of avocados were free on bail today, according to the sheriff's department.

Aaron Brady Smith and Randy Paul Navarro, both 24 and from Wildomar, were spotted around noon Wednesday on the Calixto Avocado Grove at Buena Vista and Los Gatos roads in De Luz, just east of the San Diego County line, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department,

The grower reported that two men were picking his avocados, sheriff's officials said.

The suspects left in a black Honda Accord moments before deputies arrived, but the vehicle was located about a mile away, and the two men were arrested on suspicion of grand theft.

They posted $5,000 bail and were released from the Southwest Detention Center in Murrieta.

The victim recovered his avocados.

According to Avohq.com, an avocado growers' trade association website, the average price of an avocado in the southwest United States this week is 68 cents.
