Christian religion does not make demands of judges

Memorial Day had started out so well. Early in the morning I had said a prayer of gratitude for the brave men and women who had faithfully served our country. My flag was up and flying proud. Then I read an article on the front page of the North County Times, “Christian conservatives targeting seated judges.” It seems that some conservative attorneys are on a “Mission from God” to unseat four California judges because they don’t adhere to the religious right’s agenda.

In the past I have silently railed against the cowardice of those Muslims who would not publicly state that the violent extremism of some Muslims was contrary to the value that Islam places on peace.

Now it’s my turn. I am a lifelong practicing Christian, and my Christian religion does not demand that our judges adhere to the religious right’s agenda. This would equate justice in our country to the Sharia practiced in Muslim countries. Surely American servicemen and women have not put their lives on the line for the establishment of justice ruled by the religious right - or any religion, for that matter.
