Bill Horn may be elected again, but maybe not. Mr. Mercurio, in another paper, thinks he should not be due to various gaffs and presumed transgressions. The Stonegate Merriam Mountain Project seemed to be the major block with the supervisors and, as I see the result, it was very close. Stonegate owned the land, submitted plans over a decade, but with a relative few real complaints, some near and not so near neighbors complained, mostly on traffic noise and fire possibility. County planning had worked out virtually any and all so-called problems with Stonegate, but deep pockets and special attorneys kept the vote at its final. The entire North County area is built in almost exactly the same topography of hills, valleys, slopes, brush-filled canyons, oak and sycamore trees. The neighbors on the Merriam Mountain area know the brush and fire danger and, with smart clearing, protect the property.
I cannot believe this same property will lie fallow. Eventually the known need for additional homes for thousands of people will be met. The Stonegate area has the planning of roads, parks, homes, and access necessary to meet that need. Maybe Horn can, but maybe not.
