SOS' 5K run celebrates the hills

TEMECULA – About 350 people showed up to the Ronald Reagan Sports Park in Temecula Sunday, June 13, for the Save Our Southwest Hills 5K Run for the Hills. The event united the communities of Temecula, Murrieta, Rainbow and Fallbrook in support of caring for the beautiful surrounding hills. The event benefited the Santa Margarita Ecological Reserve and the Temecula/Murrieta Rescue Mission.

Councilwoman Maryann Edwards started off the event appropriately by singing “The Hills Are Alive” from the Sound of Music. Event attendees enjoyed more live music, vendors, and speakers including Dr. Matt Rahn of SDSU and Temecula Mayor Jeff Comerchero. High school students from Temecula and Fallbrook were invited, and cash prizes were offered for the winners of the run/walk.

Event sponsors included Pechanga, San Diego State University, BMW of Riverside, Magnolia Pool Supply, Rancon, CDF Firefighters local 2881, Outdoor Channel, California Avocado Commission, as well as more than 18 smaller sponsors.
