With July 4th approaching, how can we reaffirm our gratitude for our freedom? If we’re not equipped for military duty like our all-volunteer force, we can still show our gratitude through volunteering. Many worthy nonprofits need our help.
I’ve chosen two that, for me, reconnect me to my humanity: The Fallbrook Animal Sanctuary saves and finds homes for abandoned pets. TIP - Trauma Intervention Program - sends volunteers to be with survivors of traumatic events (usually sudden deaths) until family members arrive.
Many know about the sanctuary, but if not, go to http://www.fallbrookanimalsanctuary.org. There are only four TIP volunteers in the Fallbrook/Bonsall area. We need more, especially teens and Spanish-speakers. Volunteers go through rigorous training. You’ll know how to respond when called.
TIP training begins in Fallbrook on July 29 during the evening. Go to http://www.tipsandiego.org or email [email protected]. Please consider volunteering. It may just help you feel more humane and more human.
