It’s been over two months since the oil well began gushing into the Gulf of Mexico. More than 83 million gallons of oil have gushed and it is still gushing into the ocean.
We know about the destruction of the marshes and the beaches and the fishing industry all along the Gulf; we know about the businesses lost and the turtles burned to death and the birds now covered in oil; we know about the impending danger of a hurricane that could spread the oil to other parts of the country, around Florida, killing the live coral reefs, the whales, dolphin, crabs, oysters, plankton and on and on changing the pristine waters into black, toxic, sticky goo; but what we don’t know is when it will stop. When will the oil stop gushing into the ocean?
With all our technology, all BP’s billions of dollars, all our government’s military, all of the most brilliant engineers ever, no one has been able to (or is it willing to) stop the gushing. Why is that?
