ESCONDIDO – Taylor Zumstein begins her college career at Cal Poly Pomona this fall with a comprehensive resume of academic, agricultural and equestrian accomplishments from Fallbrook High School that include completion of 15 Honors and Advanced Placement courses, myriad FFA and equestrian awards and recognitions, and the completion of her FFA State Degree.
The Ag Business major plans to focus on a career in ag marketing and organic farming, which will start with developing a sheep herd, selling the organic meat to local customers and the offspring to her local FFA and 4-H members as market projects.
The San Diego County Farm Bureau Scholarship Committee recently selected Zumstein to receive both the 2010 Farm Bureau Scholarship as well as the Grangetto’s Farm & Garden Supply named scholarship award.
“Agriculture is my heritage,” Zumstein said. “I live on a 25-acre working horse farm in Fallbrook and am the fourth generation in my family to choose a career in this field. While also dedicated to horses and equestrian arts, my Ag Business major will help expand my abilities in marketing, business management and nutrition. As an ambassador for the industry, I hope to expand my market on my reputation for quality organic produce while sharing my knowledge with local ag students to promote farm-to-table agriculture on a human scale.”
