The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued an urgent warning that severe thunderstorms are now occurring in the eastern portion of North San Diego County, moving into Southwestern Riverside County.
Trained weather spotters have reported a severe thunderstorm with winds in excess of 60 miles per hour is currently occurring 8 miles east of Palomar Mountain, or 22 miles west of Borrego Springs and moving in a northerly direction at 5 miles per hour.
The thunderstorm is producing large hail and damaging winds. Continuous cloud to ground lightening is also taking place.
Authorities say citizens should move indoors immediately if located in the area of the storm and say if one can hear thunder, they are close enough to be struck by lightening.
Hail up to one-inch in diameter has been reported northwest of Warner Springs along Highway 79 with this storm.
"If you are in the path of this storm, take immediate action to protect life and property," said authorities.
