Master Sgt. Daniel L. Fedder killed in explosion in Afghanistan

CAMP PENDLETON - A 16-year veteran Marine based at Camp Pendleton was killed in Afghanistan when a makeshift bomb exploded in Helmand province, it was announced today.

Master Sgt. Daniel L. Fedder, 34, who died Saturday -- was one of seven U.S. servicemen killed in Afghanistan over the weekend.

Fedder, of Pine City, Minn., was an explosive ordnance disposal technician with the 7th Engineer Support Battalion, 1st Marine Logistics Group, I Marine Expeditionary Force.

The Marine Corps Times reported that Fedder was on his first deployment to Afghanistan, but had been to Iraq twice and had another overseas tour elsewhere.
