FALLBROOK – On the weekend of August 13-15 a group of student leaders affiliated with the Fallbrook High School Associated Student Body (ASB) attended the 45th annual leadership camp on Palomar Mountain.
ASB leaders including Fallbrook High School’s ASB president, Demi Barrett, and vice president, Andrew Donoghue, kept the student leaders busy with interactive activities and learning opportunities.
Josh Way, ASB Advisor, spoke about exploring a life of leadership outside of one’s “comfort zone and resisting making excuses, justifications, and irresponsible behavior.”
The students’ time was perfectly balanced between work and play. Everyone attending bonded together in a judgment-free environment with opportunities to express themselves and create new friendships.
Attendees were given a survival seminar by Norm Engstrom, who assisted as a chaperone and is also a paraprofessional at FUHS. Rosie Peralta, the co-advisor for the Asian Pacific Islander Club was the other chaperone along with Way.
Student leaders organized a “Great Race,” brainstormed ideas for the 2010 Homecoming theme, and prepared for the school’s Welcome Back Assembly.
This year’s leadership group was smaller than past years, but as this year’s camp proved, quality leadership can be better than quantity.
