The decision for the route (North or South) of SR76’s final link has not yet been made. If the Northern route is selected, Fallbrook will lose Pala Road (frontage road), resulting in a huge inconvenience to the town. Worse, our safety will be compromised. The public announcement, issuing the DEIR will be made in a few days. Then the legally required time period (45 days) to hear complaints, opinions, and comments will commence.
Make no mistake, Fallbrook will pay if we don’t speak up now and during the time allotted to us. We are becoming a toss-away town as it is – granite mines to our north, East Mission to soon become a four lane ‘expressway,’ a military base to our west, and now our local access road is threatened.
We must let Caltrans know we won’t accept their Northern alternative. As many have pointed out, the Southern route would go through mostly open land. Caltrans claims it would cost more. Well, just who do they think is paying for it?
Think of the benefits to our town and the safety it would provide to all users of the highway if the Southern route is chosen. Escape routes from fire would be available, status quo for ingress and egress to and from Pala Road would remain, and most importantly the savings of injuries and lives.
We must fight for what is right. Write, email or attend the public meeting, Let your opinion be heard now and once the DEIR is issued!
