FALLBROOK – The Moccasin, yearbook of Fallbrook High, has won first place honors at the San Diego County Fair for the fourth year in a row, this time with a big bang.
The judges awarded the Moccasin 13 perfect scores in the 15 scoring categories, by far the most in the past four years that the Moccasin has entered the competition. Overall, the Moccasin set yet another school record with 950 points out of a possible 1000.
“This is a testament to the hard work and diligence of some very special staff members,” said Dave Evans, yearbook advisor for the past four years. “Special recognition goes to our editor-in-chief, Paul Mattson, and our senior ads editor, Celene Conley. Behind the leadership of these students and the team effort of the entire staff, the Moccasin once again reached new heights.”
“Our high expectations for the Moccasin every year are tempered by the reality that, as a 100 percent student-produced book and year-to-year change over in staff, mistakes are bound to occur,” Evans said. “Nonetheless, we always strive to produce a memorable yearbook of which students, their parents and guardians, and the school and community can be proud.”
For their efforts, Evans awarded Mattson and Conley $1,000 scholarships. All staff members were awarded Certificates of Recognition.
One hundred Moccasin yearbooks remain unsold and may be bought for $50 at the Fallbrook Football Boosters stand at home football games this season. The regular price is $85 at registration and $95 thereafter.
