Fallbrook's new generation of mah jong players

FALLBROOK – A handful of local children between the ages of eight and thirteen spent their summer learning a very interesting old game that requires quick thinking, strategy and math skills.

To the surprise of their mothers (also mah jong players), the kids picked up the game very quickly and have become skilled players, even filling in for their mothers at their weekly game. The kids where taught by Fallbrook’s own mah jong guru Araxy Moosa.

An (adult) tournament is scheduled for Friday, October 1, beginning at noon at the Fallbrook Public Utility Department building, corner of E. Mission and Santa Margarita. The cost is $15.00 and includes a light lunch, raffles, and prizes. Proceeds will support the American Association of University Women scholarship fund.

For more information, call Araxy Moosa at (760) 723-2262. Unfortunately, the children won’t be able to attend the tournament due to school commitments.
