The latest emergency information can be sent to mobile phones

SAN DIEGO – September was National Preparedness Month and October is the height of fire season. This is a good time for residents to review their emergency preparations and finish the ones they have started. First on everyone’s list should be to make sure they will be able to receive the latest information if there is an emergency in their neighborhood.

“Before San Diego’s Santa Ana season begins, residents should go online to register for free emergency notifications from AlertSanDiego and learn about how to safeguard their homes from a wildfire or other hazard,” said Ron Lane, Director of the Office of Emergency Services.

Since the County launched its registration campaign on September 1, nearly 5,000 more county residents have registered their cell phones with AlertSanDiego bringing the total number of cell phone registrations to about 205,000. The County urges residents to take this simple step, and also to tell family and friends to do the same, so that everyone can stay informed during an emergency impacting their community.

Registered residents will receive free emergency messages only in the event of a disaster affecting their community.
