Bonsall community involved in PKD awareness walk

SAN DIEGO – On Oct. 3, San Diegans came together at Coronado Tidelands Park to walk for awareness of Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD). Bonsall Union School District’s “Teacher of the Year” Andrea Breuninger chaired the fundraising event.

More that 600,000 Americans and 12.5 million people world wide, including 2,500 in San Diego alone, are affected by PKD which causes cysts to grow on the

kidneys, eventually leading to kidney failure. Parents with the disease have a 50 percent chance of passing it on to each of their children. Currently, dialysis and transplantation are the only treatment...
