Take a hike and look for seed pods and leaves from eucalyptus, acacia, magnolia, and elm trees. For extra sparkle, spray them with a light coating of copper or bronze metallic paint.
Use these items to fill apothecary or glass cookie jars. Another idea is to cover Styrofoam balls with moss and attach the pods with hot glue to make decorative spheres that can be displayed in a bowl or on pillar candlestick holders.
I’ve always thought eucalyptus bark is interesting, so I used my imagination to create something decorative. I have glued it to foam core and covered the edge with ribbon to make placemats. One can also cover different sized Styrofoam with bark to make candleholders.
To make a beautiful fall centerpiece, fill an urn with floral foam and place a bunch of wheat tied with fall themed ribbon in the center. Surround it with branches of real or silk fall leaves and dried hydrangeas. I chose green for contrast, but eggplant or burnt orange would work for a more monochromatic look. Tuck some gourds and mini pumpkins around the base. Another idea is to put a tall pillar candle inside a glass hurricane and add metallic-painted magnolia leaves. Surround the base of the hurricane with seed pods and artificial berries or fall garland.
Don’t forget to dress up the dining room chandelier. The simplest way is to purchase a fall garland and swag it around the arms of the light fixtures. If the fixture doesn’t have arms one could attach leaves to fishing line and dangle them from the fixture.
Create a dramatic display for a buffet by placing three to five cardboard boxes of various heights about twelve inches apart and drape them with a table cloth. Sprinkle real or silk fall leaves around and weave a spool of fall-themed wired ribbon in-between the serving pedestals. Place serving dishes and utensils on top and in front of the draped boxes.
