Church members conduct emergency exercise

FALLBROOK – The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints conducted a readiness and emergency communication exercise on October 23 and November 6. Twelve individual congregations (known as wards) from the communities of Fallbrook, Bonsall and Vista (Vista Stake) participated in the exercise.

Training is done regularly in order for the wards to be prepared for any emergency. A Ham radio is permanently stationed and maintained at the Fallbrook building located on Stage Coach Lane and the buildings in Vista. These buildings are considered the local command centers.

“This drill showed us the areas we need to improve and the changes that need to be implemented. We were pleased to see that many of the families had a plan. The Ham radio system worked perfectly. It is a valuable tool,” chairperson, Ted H. Ong stated. “After receiving the status reports from each ward, the Ham Radio units reported to the Stake Center in Vista and they in turn reported to the Bishop Storehouse in San Diego. They remained in constant contact with each other to make sure help is sent to those in need.”
