Fire in commercial building turns out to be smoking motor

FALLBROOK – North County Fire responded to a call November 30, at approximately noon, when there was thought to be a fire ablaze in a commercial building in Fallbrook.

When firefighters reached the building, located at 1667 South Mission, and investigated the situation, it was found that an electrical motor in the elevator shaft of the building was smoking.

“There was no active fire in the building, just the smoking motor,” said John Buchanan, public information officer for North County Fire. “After making sure the area was secure, it was determined that a specialist would be called in to handle the problem with the motor.”

Emergency vehicles could be seen along Rocky Crest Drive during the incident, but Buchanan said no injuries were sustained in the incident and no occupants of the building had been trapped in the elevator.

Units from North County Fire and Camp Pendleton both responded to the situation due to the location’s proximity to

the Base.
