Marine Corps issues 90-day hiring freeze for civilian appropriated fund positions

On Dec. 10, the commandant of the Marine Corps issued a new directive to temporarily freeze the hiring for a majority of civilian Marines appropriated funded positions for 90 days.

According to Marine Administrative Message 691/10, the short-term action is necessary to help the Marine Corps reduce its labor budget due to mandated budget reductions for 2012.

Since 2000, the Marine Corps’ civilian workforce has increased by 87 percent as a result of active-duty Marines deploying overseas to Afghanistan and Iraq.
