Many good points have been made regarding the problems with vacant businesses in downtown Fallbrook.
Fallbrook is suffering from many of the same problems that are affecting small towns across the country. Big box stores, where people can get lower priced products, are taking business away from the small, downtown businesses. Getting a better deal is always attractive to shoppers. That is human nature.
The problem facing small towns is somewhat akin to the loss of manufacturing jobs. Americans want to be the best paid workers with the best benefits. That is human nature. They also want to pay the lowest prices possible. That also is human nature. Business, wanting to be competitive, is moving their manufacturing overseas. That brings the cost of goods down. That makes their customers happy.
Every time you buy something, look at where it was manufactured. If it is made out of the country, your purchase funds a job for someone in that country and it is one less job for one of our folks. People need to make a conscious effort to buy products made here and they need to make an effort to help the small businesses that are struggling to survive.
