Fuel spill causes SIG Alert for SR76; portion of roadway closed approx. until noon for cleanup process

A Sig Alert has been issued for State Route 76 from Sweetgrass Lane to Ramona Drive after an overturned tractor truck began spilling gallons of diesel fuel on the road.

According to California Highway Patrol (CHP) Eric Newbury, Bruce Bankes, a 46-year-old Wildomar man, was driving a Sterling tractor truck loaded with wooden planks at approximately 45 mph westbound on SR 76 at approximately 7 a.m. Upon passing the Ramona Drive intersection the big rig overturned while taking the curve.

“Bankes said he could feel the contents shift because of the curve,” said Newbury.
