The County of San Diego will be sponsoring state legislation to provide a permanent funding source for graffiti abatement programs.
The San Diego County Board of Supervisors’ 5-0 vote January 25 directs the county’s Chief Administrative Officer to seek state legislation which would use a dedicated portion of restitution payments to fund graffiti abatement programs in public jurisdictions.
“This is going to be a huge help,” said Supervisor Dianne Jacob.
In addition to being a public nuisance and an expense to remove, graffiti can also lead to gang activity.
