Braves win rugby tournament

FALLBROOK – On Saturday, Jan. 22, the Fallbrook Braves U14 boys’ rugby team participated in the 16 team Olympic 7’s Rugby Tournament, held at the USA Olympic Training Center in

Chula Vista.

After winning all three of their pool matches, the Braves went into the quarterfinals as the #1 seed. The Braves quarterfinal opponents were the San Clemente Gators. Both teams played well and the game ended in a 10 - 10 tie. However, Martin Campos scored a try in overtime to send the Braves on to the semi-finals as 15 to 10 winners.

There, the Braves met the San Diego Wallabies. The Braves overpowered the Wallabies, and won 35 to 0. In the championship game, the Braves faced their rivals, the San Diego Mustangs. Both teams played hard and fast rugby and at the half the Mustangs lead 17 to 7. After the break, the Braves came out strong and scored 14 unanswered points to win the championship 21 to 17.
