Quarries and air quality

In David Thompson’s letter of January 29, 2011 entitled “Quarry will have no effect on our health,” he references air monitoring which has already been done at Granite Construction’s Rosemary’s Quarry on Highway 76 in Fallbrook.

What Mr. Thompson fails to mention is that in a Granite conducted community meeting last November, Granite officials stated that Rosemary’s last blast was in July 2010 and their next blast is planned for mid-2011 whereas Liberty Quarry is proposing a blast up to 10 times/week, for over fifty years.

Further, Rosemary operates at only 10-15 percent of permitted capacity...
