Ceremony marks opening of new postal facility

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held for the grand opening of Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton’s new Mail Processing Facility on March 10.

The structure achieved a Self-Certified Gold LEED rating due to its ability to reduce energy consumption by more than 30 percent. The building will replace the old postal location, building 1674, and will serve as the main Post Office for all of Camp Pendleton.

The facility, which cost more than $6.7 million to complete, has new parking lots, extensive landscaping, reinforced concrete masonry unit block construction, reinforced foundation and floors, and a standing seam metal roof.
