FALLBROOK – Scott Duffin, agriculture teacher at Fallbrook High School has been selected as Fallbrook Union High School District’s (FUHSD) Teacher of the Year. Duffin is being recognized for his investment of time and energy that has resulted in students participating in rigorous and relevant learning activities both inside and outside of the classroom.
Through his leadership, the Fallbrook High School Future Farmers of America (FFA) program is consistently recognized as one of the best programs in the state of California and the nation.
Duffin’s colleagues are impressed with “his eagerness to learn new techniques that he can employ within his lessons.” He is described as “the ultimate team member, always willing to assist or take the lead when needed. He is a very unselfish teacher.”
Two years ago, Duffin offered to take on the horticulture responsibilities in addition to his assignment with animal science. He found more energy and excitement with his new responsibilities and voluntarily attended an evening community college class in order to improve his floriculture expertise.
At the close of the 2010 school year, he took three weeks out of his summer to learn horticulture skills at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Administrators said Duffin is a teacher “who has never stopped learning his profession.” Scott Duffin models high expectations, a commitment to excellence, and the attributes of a life-long learner, they continued.
“Fallbrook Union High School District is extremely fortunate to have an educator of [Scott Duffin’s] caliber,” said Superintendent Dale Mitchell. “We enthusiastically named him Teacher of the Year.”
