A 23-year-old Fallbrook man sustained serious injuries after being attacked by a group of Hispanic males Sunday evening, April 10.
Alex Lara told responding Sheriff’s deputies that he had been “jumped” by six or seven Hispanic males wielding baseball bats and wearing brass knuckles while walking in the 200 block of West Ammunition Road at about 10:30 p.m.
Sheriff’s Sgt. Joe Montion said deputies were able to find and arrest three juveniles nearby that were believed to be involved in the attack, but the other perpetrators are still being sought.
“Deputies arrested three juveniles that were believed to be fleeing the scene,” said Montion. “They were arrested at the time for being drunk and in violation of curfew.”
Montion said the victim was found injured but conscious and transported to Palomar Hospital. The victim told deputies that the attack was “unfounded.”
Information from other sources indicate the attack may have been a misplaced act of revenge by local street gang members relating to the case of Kenneth Mose who was fatally stabbed by gang members on Jan. 11 near Carl’s Jr. restaurant. These same sources said some of the street gang members believed Lara had provided information pertaining to some of those involved in the brutal attack on Mose, but insist that wasn’t the case, that he had no information or involvement.
“The investigation is continuing into this,” said Montion. Anyone with information pertaining to the attack is asked to contact Sheriff’s Detective Jim Cady at the Fallbrook Substation, (760) 451-3100.
