Thanks to Cal Trans for updating their 2008 traffic study. Unfortunately, the counting strips on SR76 were only in place for a week - during Spring Break! How many cars would be counted on a summer weekend with travelers going to the beach?
No thanks to North County Supervisor Bill Horn. While he’s done a tremendous amount for the Fallbrook community, in my opinion, his friendship with Vessels appears to be a conflict of interest. Indeed, he has expressed bias on at least three occasions for the proposed Existing Alignment of SR76, telling residents that he promised Vessels he wouldn’t permit the highway to go through the stallion farm.
Horn seems to have forgotten that this isn’t supposed to be his decision to make.
So despite the negative impact to the environment, and the rural flavor of Fallbrook/Bonsall, and notwithstanding 5,000 signatures to the contrary, on Feb. 1, Cal Trans informed SR76 Action Committee members that the Existing Alignment has already been selected as the “preferred” choice. Apparently, this decision was made prior to legally mandated evaluations by various state and federal agencies. How sad that our tax dollars were spent on countless studies, while the politicians had already made the choice for us.
