Fallbrook High School’s girls swim team won its Avocado East League opener April 1 at home against San Pasqual.
The Warriors improved their overall dual meet record to 4-1 with the 119-61 victory over the Golden Eagles.
“It was a good starting point,” said Fallbrook coach Sean Redmond.
Fallbrook won seven events and San Pasqual won five, but the Warriors swept the top three positions in three of the eight individual swimming events to earn the maximum 13 points in each of those races while finishing first and second in the 200-yard freestyle relay to earn the maximum 12 points in that event.
The first-place 200-yard freestyle relay team, consisting of senior Lisa Walker, junior Jenny Chavez, senior Jackie Verdon, and junior Sarah Bushnell, completed the race in 1:48.02. The second-place team of senior Tamzen Sommer, freshman Aimee Steen, senior Demi Barrett, and junior Tiffany Beye took 1:52.87.
The Sommer sisters took the top two places in the 100-yard backstroke with Tamzen Sommer winning the race in 1:08.39 and sophomore Chelsea Sommer placing second with a time of 1:12.80. Walker was third in that race and had a time of 1:13.35.
Freshman Raeann Neibel took 5:53.85 to win the 500-yard freestyle event. Junior Bridgette Harrison finished second at 6:02.81, and senior Gabi Phend had a third-place time of 6:05.25.
Freshman Kierstin Dowden won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:16.37. Junior Vivian Vannewart placed second with a time of 1:17.55 while Beye’s time of 1:26.03 earned third-place points.
Verdon won the 200-yard freestyle race 2:09.14 after the starting gun was fired while senior Hunter Bowman was second with a performance of 2:12.83.
Sommer, Bushnell, Dowden, and Walker won the 200-yard medley relay while posting a time of 2:01.50.
During the diving session freshman Haylee Jameson scored a season-high 220.15 points on six dives to take first place.
