SAN DIEGO – Owners and managers of multifamily, commercial, industrial or public properties can take advantage of a free irrigation checkup sponsored by the San Diego County Water Authority and the Bureau of Reclamation. The no-obligation checkup gives specific recommendations for improving water use efficiency that can lead to savings of 20 percent or more. Residential properties one irrigated acre and larger can also take advantage of the program.
Applications may be obtained at http://www.irrigationcheckup.org, or by calling call (866) 883-1332. A limited number of checkups are available on a first-come, first-served basis until the program ends on June 1. Properties within the Water Authority’s service area are eligible. The Water Authority encourages customers to take advantage of the program before it runs out.
Mission Resource Conservation District (MRCD), which provides the service on behalf of the Water Authority free of charge, identifies opportunities for water savings during a property walk-through. MRCD provides a brief, easy-to-understand report with specific observations and site-specific recommendations, providing an excellent planning tool for spring landscape preparation and water budget management.
MRCD is an independent unit of local government that actively promotes the responsible use of land, water, and other natural resources.
