Osborn places first in state gymnastics competition

FALLBROOK – Fallbrook resident and Sullivan Middle School sixth grader Daria Osborn is the 2011 Level 7 Southern California State Gymnastics Champion in floor exercise. Daria competed in the 11-year-old division where she scored a 9.60 on her floor routine. She placed fifth all around with a 37.35.

This meet, the final event of the season, was held at Cal State Long Beach in March and included top gymnasts from teams all over Southern California.

Another highlight of Daria’s season was when she competed at the WOGA Classic in Texas in February against top gymnasts from across the U.S. Daria competed in the 11-12 year old division and was awarded first place on her bars routine, scoring a 9.70. She placed fourth all around in her division with a score of 38.0.

Daria overcame multiple injuries during the past year, but was able to regain her skills in time to compete this season. Daria also took first place in bars at the San Diego Classic with a 9.55, as well as first place in bars at the California Classic with a 9.60, but ultimately it was her floor routine that made her a state champion.

Daria trains at SCEGA Gymnastics, a National Team Training Center in Temecula.
