Annual picnic and plant sale in Rainbow set for May 21

RAINBOW – The 17th annual Rainbow Days Picnic will be held on Saturday, May 21, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Rainbow Park, located at 5157 Fifth St.

Admission is free to the event, which is sponsored by the Rainbow Property Owners Association (RPOA), in cooperation with every local civic organization: Rainbow Valley Grange, Rainbow Fire Dept., Rainbow Planning Group, Vallecitos School District and its Parent Teacher Organization (PTO).

The PTO’s Plant Sale begins at 7 a.m. at Vallecitos School, 5211 Fifth St. It features bargains from two dozen local nurseries in the community, including perennials, annuals, trees, shrubs, and herbs. All proceeds go to the school’s art and sports programs.

The inaugural class of Rainbow’s Walk of Fame will be announced at the picnic. Local organizations nominated past and present members who have played important roles in Rainbow’s history. The project is a joint venture between RPOA and Southwest Boulder and Stone. A complete barbecue lunch will be served and the Grange will have a bake sale. Games for children, with prizes in every category, will be staged at the park.

The annual election of RPOA board members is open to all RPOA members. Raffles will be held every half hour, with prizes donated from local businesses. A special $100-bill grand raffle will be held at 1:30 p.m. Students from all grades at Vallecitos will compete in an art contest, with cash prizes for the winners. One design will be selected for use in next year’s official school calendar and RPOA’s official picnic T-shirt. For more information, visit rainbowca.com.
