Local students win at five-county art contest

FALLBROOK – Two local students won awards in the 5-County Southern Area Youth Art Month (YAM) Show held at the Armory for the Arts in Pasadena in April. First grader Dillon Gard won first place in the kindergarten through second grade division.

This show exhibited first, second and third place artworks from YAM Shows in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, and San Diego counties. A photocopy of Dillon’s work and other first place winners in this southern area show will be on exhibit in the Department of Education in Sacramento during 2011 along with first place winners from the Central and Northern Area YAM Shows.

These annual art events are sponsored be the California Art Education Association of which Marilee Ragland is a member. Ragland instructed the Fallbrook students who entered the YAM Shows in San Diego County. Other Fallbrook students whose works were in the Pasadena show were first grader Logan Adams who won third place in the Southern Area Show, fourth grader Isabella Hurley and fifth grader Abby Zamora.
