'Mormon Helping Hands Day' benefits community

“Mormon Helping Hands Day” on Saturday, May 7, was an event held throughout the state of California during which members and friends of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) provided service to their communities by focusing on renewing and beautifying city, county and state parks.

In Fallbrook, the LDS church located on Stagecoach Road sent out over 350 volunteers from Wards 1, 2 and 5 to four different local parks

At Live Oak Park, LDS volunteers worked on improving the ball field by installing chain link fencing and benches as well as providing general clean up and trail restoration.

Volunteers at Beech Street Park applied fresh paint where needed, installed a new park sign, and did concrete work in addition to weeding, trimming and cleaning up the location.

LDS members installed hitching posts and poured a cement pad for portable restrooms at the Santa Margarita Equestrian Park in addition to clearing trails, weeding and providing general clean up.

At the Fallbrook Community Center, church affiliates assisted with the facility’s Spring Sale by setting up and helping with the snack bar for the event.

Volunteers with the day-long projects joined together for a barbecue at the end of the day at Live Oak Park.
