Cemetery maintenance a disappointment

In my opinion, the maintenance and upkeep of the Fallbrook Masonic Cemetery has worsened over the past several months. It is understandable that chores must be postponed at times due to inclement weather, but that hasn’t been the case.

I have five family members buried at the cemetery and visit their gravesites regularly on birthdays and holidays.

When I visited Easter weekend, the grounds were overgrown and a good majority of headstones obstructed by grass that hadn’t been trimmed in ages. Dozens and dozens of headstones were very difficult to read. Numerous families were visiting that day to leave flowers on their loved ones’ graves. I felt sad the grounds looked so awful on such an important holiday.

I thought surely for Mother’s Day it would be a different story. Maybe changes had happened in the maintenance program or crew and would be corrected. Wrong.

Mother’s Day was the same sad situation.

Each time I have paid for these plots for family members, it has been for a handsome amount. The charge included what they call “perpetual” care/maintenance. When does “perpetual” start? When does “perpetual” end?

I can’t think of anything more disrespectful than the way this cemetery is being maintained. What are the fees being used for?
