A 15-year-old Latino male assaulted a Sheriff's deputy as the officer began the process of placing him under arrest Friday night, June 24, at approximately 10:07 p.m., in the 1100 block of South Vine Street in Fallbrook. As a result, the boy was arrested for battery on a peace officer, felony resisting arrest, public drunkenness, and vehicle burglary. The boy, not identified as a street gang member, but said to be "known by local law enforcement," was said to be under the influence of alcohol when he was first contacted by Deputy Adrian Moses regarding a vehicle burglary.
"When Deputy Moses attempted to contact [the teenager], he ran away; later, the deputy observed him emerging from a nearby apartment complex," explained Lt. Robert Haley, commander of the Fallbrook Sheriff's substation. "This time, [the teenager] did not run away. Deputy Moses observed that the boy was extremely drunk and instructed him to turn around and place his hands behind himself."
While Moses was in the process of handcuffing the teen, "the boy pulled away and began punching the deputy repeatedly in the head and face," said Haley.
Haley said his Moses called for backup while trying to dodge the blows.
"Deputy Moses eventually wrestled the suspect to the ground and another deputy arrived two minutes later and helped get the [teenager] handcuffed," said Haley.
Haley said the deputy suffered minor injuries in the incident. "He hurt his left hand," he said.
The 15-year-old suffered a bruised and swollen eye and a bloody nose.
"Paramedics were called to the scene and evaluated the suspect," said Haley. "They determined [the teenager] did not need additional medical treatment."
While the teen was in custody at the scene, a woman approached officers and said she had observed a young man trying to steal something out of her car.
"She positively identified him as the one burglarizing her car," said Haley.
The boy was transported to Juvenile Hall that night.
According to another source, the teenager had been arrested previously for allegedly burglarizing another vehicle.

Drunken boy repeatedly punches deputy while being arrested for several offenses
FALLBROOK - A drunken boy repeatedly punched a sheriff's deputy while in the process of being arrested on suspicion of several offenses, including vehicle burglary, the Sheriff's Dept. has reported.
A Sheriff's deputy attempted to arrest the juvenile for public drunkenness about 10 p.m. Friday, June 24 in the 1100 block of South Vine Street when the boy pulled away and repeatedly punched the deputy in the head and face, said Sheriff's Sgt. Patrick Yates.
The deputy wrestled with the suspect for about two minutes before additional deputies arrived and restrained the boy.
Deputies then determined the boy had burglarized a nearby vehicle and he was taken to juvenile hall on suspicion of burglary, battery on a peace officer, resisting arrest, and public drunkenness, Yates said.
The minor, whose name and age were not released, had been arrested May 20 for allegedly burglarizing another vehicle, Yates said, and property from a third vehicle was found in the suspect's possession at the time of the arrest.
