FALLBROOK – The American Association University Women (AAUW) Math and Science Recognition Breakfast was held June 3 at the Fallbrook Women’s Club. AAUW members Barbara Ajello and Christine Assad organized the event along with Pat Dales, the assistant to Brian Jacobs, superintendent of Fallbrook Union Elementary School District.
Sixteen students from Iowa Street School, Potter Jr. High, San Onofre, Sullivan, and Vallecitos schools were honored for their achievements in science and math. Four Tech Trek recipients and one alternate were also given their certifications. Superintendent Jacobs began the presentations introducing teachers and principals from the schools to present their prospective students. Additionally each student gratefully acknowledged the support of their parents who also attended.
It was a festive event with balloons, party decorations, puzzle games, and space photos from Jet Propulsion Labs (JPL) decorating the tables. Dr. Moogega Cooper from JPL brought slides and videos for her presentation titled Shoot for the Stars.
Professional mentor consultants answered questions during the continental breakfast, Dr. Sarah Hoggan, DVM; Krystal Kranz, computer science gaming; Janelle Vasquez, advanced math, and Katrina Yamazaki, Ph.D. bio medical research.
AAUW supports young women in pursuing STEM classes (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). AAUW financed the event and all participants volunteered their time. For more information, call Christine Assad at
