Marine families enjoy free fun with the help of Fallbrook residents

CAMP PENDLETON – A group of Fallbrook residents put on a family day for Combat Logistics Battalion 1 on July 1 at Lake O’Neil on Camp Pendleton. Miss Teen Fallbrook and her Princesses helped greet the families and supervise the children’s contests on stage. Organizer Mary Ann Hillery said, “Their help was such a hit with the kids.”

El Toro Market, Major Market and Fresh ‘n Easy donated the refreshments. Volunteers from St Vincent de Paul thrift store included Nancy McSheehy, Imelda O’Gara-Roth, and Donna Parker. Sue Shiner and her grandson Christian donated the stuffed animals. Phil Forbes was there to barbeque lots and lots of hamburgers, hot dogs and brats. Other volunteers were Jane Kepley and her son Sean who helped serve all the families.

This unit will be deploying to Afghanistan in September. Hillery plans to co-ordinate support to send care packages weekly. Anyone who would like to help or contribute can reach her at (760) 521-9082. Items needed include jerky, energy bars, (no chocolate as it melts too quickly), baby wipes, toothbrushes, toothpaste, hot sauce - preferably Tabasco, canned tuna, canned Vienna sausages, gum, hard candy, and powdered Gatorade.
