Motorist Killed in Crash Outside Scientology Compound

SAN JACINTO - A Moreno Valley man died today in a head-on crash outside a Church of Scientology compound in San Jacinto.

Oscar Avila, 31, died at the scene of the 6:30 a.m. collision at 19625 Gilman Springs Road, across the street from the Golden Era Production Studios, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Avila was headed east in his 1996 Volvo when he failed to negotiate a curve and allowed his car to drift into the opposite lane on the two-lane road, said CHP Officer Darren Meyer.
