Bender tells fruit growers about gophers

Gary Bender, who has lived in Fallbrook for the past 25 years, works professionally for the University of California Cooperative Extension. On May 20, Bender was at Mira Costa College to address the North San Diego County chapter of the California Rare Fruit Growers about gophers.

“We are focusing on an integrated approach,” Bender said.

A combination of trapping and baits constitutes that integrated approach. “If you’re not having much luck with traps go back to that poison application thing for a little while,” Bender said. “I like to go back and forth.”
