FALLBROOK - Collaborating with Through Children’s Eyes, Inc., Bello Lei Salon is proud to present the photography of local school children from the afterschool programs of Frazier School and the Boys & Girls Club. The show is on exhibit in the four rooms of the salon through Aug. 31.
Through Children’s Eyes, Inc. is a nonprofit organization providing programs which use photography, writing, and performing arts as educational tools. It teaches children visual awareness of their community, increases communication skills, and helps them develop a sense of pride of accomplishment without competition. Volunteer instructors teach the children the basics of camera use, and then take them on local field trips.
The current display at the salon includes the work of children who were instructed by Ken Seals, a 17-year resident of Fallbrook and a passionate photographer. Seals’ interest in photography began in high school and continued through the University of Missouri where he earned a degree in journalism, majoring in photojournalism.
A stint in the U.S. Army as a photography instructor and photographer followed, culminating in Seals’ assignment to the U.S. Army headquarters photography unit in Seoul, Korea for 13 months. Following his Army service, Ken was the chief photographer for the Lawrence, Kans. Journal World for five years. He is now a fine art and documentary photographer having rededicated himself to photography following his second career as a pilot and manager in corporate aviation.
The exhibit can be viewed at Bello Lei Salon, 131 Beech Street, in downtown Fallbrook. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
