For those wishing to cultivate the healthiest indoor plants possible, the experts at Discount Indoor Garden Supply (DIGS) have valuable suggestions as to the best products to use on specific plants. For those growing vegetables and herbs, traditionally or through the hydroponic system, productivity can be greatly enhanced with careful attention to proper soil nutrients and organic pesticides.
“You need extra nutrients found in certain products to help plants thrive, grow faster, larger, and produce more fruit,” said Carey Haas, owner of DIGS. “Those that begin using these nutrients and minerals find they have better quantity and quality of fruit, vegetables, herbs, and roses. We help people find solutions for bigger and better gardens.”
Haas explained the importance of three basic nutrients to a plant’s success. “Nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium are essential to plants because the water we get out of the tap is not nutrient rich,” he said.
The benefit of micro nutrients is also significant, Haas said.
“We offer organic fertilizers that provide important bacteria, micro-subsystems that take over the root zone and make plants thrive; it makes the root system of the plant healthier.” Haas said he offers one gallon of free organic compost to customers because he knows its success rate.
“A customer should bring in their own one-gallon container and we will fill it up with the organic compost,” said Haas. “That concentrate can be mixed with up to 40 gallons of water to use on plants.”
DIGS offers garden nutrients, soils, additives, and equipment for those interested in growing plants indoors.
“We carry lighting systems, bulbs, and more; and everyone that works in our store is very knowledgeable,” said Haas.
DIGS also offers plenty of remedies for pesky insects that favor plants and conditions such as mildew that frequently occur.
“Humidity has a lot to do with the mildew people experience with their plants,” said Haas, who also said the health of a plant has a lot to do with whether it attracts maladies or not.
“The healthier a plant is the more naturally it will repel pests,” said Haas. “It’s the old saying – an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”
DIGS is located in Vista at 1850 Hacienda Drive. A new location will be open in Fallbrook soon and will feature even more organic supplies than the Vista location.
“I am franchising a location in Fallbrook starting in August, shortly after Soul Roll 5 at the Elder House,” said Haas, who is a major sponsor of the event.
“This is the second Soul Roll event I have sponsored; we wanted to be involved since we will be opening up a new store in Fallbrook,” he said. “We want people to know who we are. I also enjoy being a sponsor because I like reggae music and look forward to hearing the legendary Barrington Levy.”
