FALLBROOK – At the Aug. 4 Fallbrook Democratic Club meeting, at 7 p.m., the guest speaker will be nuclear physicist Dr. Alexander DeVolpi, who will give a scientific perspective on the controversy of the earthquake-tsunami-nuclear power plant disaster in Japan. The topic of his program will be “The Risks of Nuclear Power: comparing Fukushima, Chernobyl and Three-Mile Island.”
Dr. DeVolpi has his MS in nuclear engineering physics and PhD in physics from Virginia Polytechnic Institute. While in the Navy he worked at the Naval Research Laboratory and the Naval Radiological Defense Lab. He worked for 40 years in the Argonne National Laboratory, where his areas of research included nuclear fission, radiation, nuclear-reactor safety, arms-control analysis and verification technology. He has written several books and is now retired, living in Oceanside.
