While some contracting businesses have found it difficult to weather a patchy real estate market and economy, Fallbrook Bath & Kitchen Co. has been able to grow in 2011, all thanks its employees’ hard work, customer service and dedication to their clients.
Tony Raia, the owner of Fallbrook Bath & Kitchen Co., grew up in a family filled with tradesmen and contractors, and obtained his own license in 1978. With an eye for design and detail, it was not difficult for Raia to develop a strong company in Orange County, where he and his wife lived.
In 2003, Raia moved the business to Fallbrook from Orange County after accidentally finding Fallbrook and falling in love with the community.
“My wife and I found Fallbrook by accident when we wanted to spend a weekend in a bed and breakfast and go wine tasting in Temecula,” said Raia. “I Googled places near Temecula and the place that popped up happened to be in Fallbrook.”
After finding downtown Fallbrook and talking to locals, the couple made the decision to sell their home and move into the area, despite having both of their businesses located in OC.
In a year’s time, Raia was able to work with local businesses to help with kitchen installations, and began to develop a reputation for quality work in bathroom and kitchen remodeling throughout South Orange County, Riverside County and San Diego County. As the company progressed, additional services, such as outside home repair and siding repair were added.
When a potential customer approaches Raia and his team for bathroom or kitchen work, he gives them more than a short list of referrals; he has over 30 individuals who can sing the company’s praise.
“Things potential clients hear are that Fallbrook Bath & Kitchen employees are on time, leave the job site clean, and are courteous,” said Raia. “We strive to have our customers feeling good. A lot of people do what we do as well as we do, so to set us apart, we want to leave our customers feeling like they have gotten their money’s worth on their investment.”
Raia stated that it is very rare for Fallbrook Bath & Kitchen to “upcharge” – add additional fees for unanticipated work – on projects.
“We don’t want to upcharge for the little things our clients ask us to do [on a project],” said Raia, who also believes in offering suggestions for home improvements without pressuring clients to begin work right away.
“I plant the seed with clients by talking about something that can be done in the future,” said Raia. “If they choose to begin the project, we ask that they give us a call. We had a customer’s home where we did the kitchen, two bathrooms, doors, windows and siding in six years.”
As a family based company, Fallbrook Bath & Kitchen Co. employees take pride in their work and in their company.
“There are three core employees in my company that have been with me for seven to 10 years, and they have a sense of ownership in the company. The family feel allows us to be small, but we still give a quality, personable service,” said Raia. I treat them like partners and equals; everything I do, they do. My son-in-law, Matthew Bellafaire, is a minority partner, and hopes to take over the business. He and Sean Stanley are both studying for their general contractor’s license.”
Raia and his family enjoy their lives as a part of the Fallbrook community. On his off hours, Raia plays the piano for St. Peter’s in town, and considers it a gift.
“I enjoy being here; Fallbrook has been good to us,” said Raia. “We run into people at Major Market, and everyone knows someone you know.”
