BONSALL – More than 400 music enthusiasts attended the third annual Bonsallpalooza fundraiser on June 18 at the Pala Casino Resort and Spa. Ticket sales, silent auction items, and donations helped raise nearly $23,000 for Bonsall Unified School District music programs.
“Bonsallpalooza is very important for students affected by the state’s budget cuts,” said Jennifer Smith, Bonsallpalooza chair. “Music is such a significant part of learning, and if it wasn’t for Bonsallpalooza attendees, pledges by concerned parents, and generous community support, there would be no music programs in Bonsall elementary schools.”
Bonsallpalooza, an annual benefit concert to support music programs in the Bonsall Union School District, began in 2009 in response to government budget cuts that eliminated music from elementary school curriculum. Over the past three years, the event has raised $63,000.
“Our most critical, ongoing goal is to raise money for credentialed music teachers,” said Erica Perko, event co-chair. “Additional event proceeds go toward bringing in professional musicians to perform via the Fallbrook Music Society, and for grants to individual teachers who request music and art funds for their classrooms.”
This year’s Bonsallpalooza lineup included Liquid Blue, Aunt Kizzy’s Boyz, and The Night Doctors. Guests were also treated to a special pre-show featuring Bonsall School District’s own superintendent, Justin Cunningham.
