On Fallbrook St., there is a county road sign reading, “Senior Center Facility;” above it is a speed sign: 25 mph. This is a reduction from 40 mph. Clearly vehicles would require braking and in doing so, their taillights would come on.
Enough non-downgrading of speed is not done and shows in no taillights going on at all. The result generated by vehicles that do reduce to 25 is speeders passing them in the left-hand lane.
Citizens of all ages cross the street using the traffic light at Magarian and Heald Lane, not only seniors but even young children. The Fallbrook Community Center has programs for preschool and childcare, summer day camps and picnic area plus playground.
On Aug. 29, La Paloma Elementary School opens for the fall term using this crossing also.
Please approach this area with the thought that doing 25 mph represents the benchmark speed for this area.
